Work clothes as a vector for microorganisms …. an overlooked exposure problem?

  • Signe Agnete Møller (Speaker)

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture and oral contribution

Description

Take-home exposure, by means of bringing home contaminated clothes, has been studied for chemical agents such as lead and pesticides and for biological agents, secondary exposure has been studied for e.g. cat allergens and pollen. However, the accumulation, transport and resuspension of microorganisms from work clothes has not been studied before. In this session, we will present our study conducted in a work environment with elevated exposure to microorganisms, namely that of waste collectors. We will also discuss other environments where biological agents or allergens can accumulate on clothes, and possible preventative measures for paraoccupational exposure to these biological agents.
