Description
BioFibreLoop is a fast-track innovation action for the quick deployment of affordable, sustainable, and circular bio-based textiles, enriched with biomimetic functionalities for the work-, outdoor and activewear textile industry. By 2027, BioFibreLoop will deliver an innovative functionalisation technology at TRL 7 that provides a new generation of sustainable textiles based on renewable, recyclable, bio-based materials (lignin, man-made cellulosic material and polylactic acid (PLA)) with biomi-metic functionalities. Thus, BioFibreLoop will:
1. Enable a breakthrough in non-hazardous chemical textile functionalisation with a 100% reduction of hazardous chemicals. 2. Address consumer needs with high-added value smart functionalities in fabrics and garments: hydrophobi-city, oil repellence, self-cleaning, and antibacterial activity.
3. Provide affordable, low-resource, and low environment-impact high-performance durable fibres and textiles from renewable sources for technical end markets.
4. Enable effective circularity and recycling up to near-zero waste biomimetic functionalisation and reducing GHG by 20% by 2035.
