A pilot study of particulate and volatile emissions from plastic welding processes at a technical education school - preliminary results

Activity: Talk or presentationLecture and oral contribution

Description

Background
NFA was contacted in October 2023 by Jan Carsten Illum Pedersen from Technical Education Copenhagen, Gladsaxe department (TEC). He was interested in the most recent scientific knowledge about occupational emissions from plastic welding using materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene, including e.g. halogenated alternatives. Educational courses in plastic welding techniques were initiated at TEC in 2023, and the staff was interested in a safety evaluation of their working environment in relation to welding activities. Specifically, they were interested in (1) methods for assessing exposure to relevant pollutants, (2) whom could conduct such measurements and if possible the (3) latest knowledge in this field. Since the knowledge about these processes is very limited and not updated recently, NFA and TEC scheduled one day of pilot measurements at a welding workshop in Gladsaxe.
