Personal profile

Research interests

Ana Sofia Fonseca (♀), MSc, PhD. researcher focuses on the characterization, monitoring and assessment of exposure to chemical substances in workplaces, with special interest in risk assessment tools for predicting and controlling exposures.

Primary Workfields

Ana Sofia Fonseca (♀), MSc, PhD. researcher. She obtained her PhD in 2016 in the field of occupational exposure to nanomaterials from the University of Barcelona (Spain). She has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research covering materials physicochemical analyses, characterization, monitoring and assessment of exposure to chemical substances in workplaces and application of risk assessment tools for predicting and controlling exposures.
She has been involved in the development of the official EN17199-4 standard of the small rotating drum method for dustiness testing of materials (CEN/TC 137/WG3). Currently, she has been responsible for a national Project aiming to map occupational exposure of asbestos, respirable quartz and total suspended particles within the construction industry. She is also leading an OECD WPMN Project on global readiness of occupational exposure models for nanomaterials and co-leading an OECD WPMN Project on dustiness of manufactured nanomaterials. She currently has 26 scientific publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 1 book chapter and more than 70 contributions to European events and International Scientific Meetings. H-index = 13 WoS.
